Huangshan Mountain - the Yellow Mountains

Chinese trains are clean and on-time. The overnight train trip from Suzhou was comfortable enough in second-class and was certainly inexpensive. We arrived Wednesday morning in Huangshan and were met by our guide com at the exit from the train station, then about 90 minute drive to the cable car up the mountain.

Once on top, it was up and down steep steps on the incredible walkways that have been attached to the sides of cliffs. The moods of the mountain were very changeable. Mist could blow in in seconds. We had a little rain on Wednesday afternoon, and the forecast for Thursday was not great. Nevertheless, we got up just after 0500 to try for a sunrise and were pleasantly surprised to see one. Our guide said we were lucky.

So here are some views of the mountain, its moods, and its walkways, and of course the sunrise.

The Chinese people associate parts of the mountain with their love and relationships. This place was described by our guide as the key to love, that it necessitated a kiss and a photo... sounded good to us.

We were off the mountain by lunch time, heading for some nearby villages that have preserved some of the area's cultural history.
