18 Oct - to Yulin

Another overcast, dull day. Except for a brief minute or two of light rain at the beginning of the ride, it was dry, but a bit of rain again after we got into the hotel in Yulin. We had some good road but also a bit of really rough stuff and dust around the construction... that's pretty much standard fare.

The day before yesterday, we mentioned the numbers of wood panels being made in one town. Today we passed several places with veneer panels drying outside. It's worth noting how much of this work is done very close to the source of the raw material, in small facilities using manual labour. We are not sure how or when or where all these things come together to make a final finished product, but it is apparent that there is a well-orchestrated supply chain.

About 15 km short of Yulin, our destination for the day, we came across this new park. It was at the side of the highway, evidently part of a grander development scheme for the area.

The signage for all these things is in Chinese, so it isn't always apparent to us why these lovely sites suddenly appear in the middle of an otherwise ordinary area. About 15 km of highway going into Yulin is in various stages of construction turning it from an ordinary four-lane road into a wide boulevard with six central lanes (divided) and separate two plus lane streets on each edge, parts of it already lined with flowers and hedges, being watered and well-kept...
...and even garbage gets special treatment.
...and the sign of the day in Yulin...
