4-5 Oct - to Wuping and Meizhou and a rest day

Friday was the toughest day so far. The first 100 km was on a road under construction, hot, dusty - this actually makes it look good - we were often amongst heavy trucks navigating single tracks at about 2 km/hr through the work zones...not much fun.
The afternoon was a vast improvement, still hot, but good road, clearer skies, and nicer hilly countryside...
...complete with an arch at the top of one climb...
...and nice kids around the much needed coke stops...
...and eventually good dinner and breakfast at the hotel in Wuping...

Saturday started cool and foggy...
...as we climbed in the hills, it got patchier...
...and then turned into the clearest day yet... blue skies... great scenery...

Work in these field is mainly manual...

...even loading lumber trucks is by hand, here both men and women carrying bamboo up the ladder... and these don't look like insignificant loads even if bamboo is lighter than some lumber.
So now we're in Meizhou for a rest day. We thought we were going to be in a relatively small town... maybe we are by Chinese standards... population 5,000,000. We haven't explored much yet but we did get these night-lighted river scenes last night when we went out for dinner.

Looks like a nice day for us to wander around town today (Sunday). The weather forecast says a typhoon will bring us rain on Monday for the beginning of the week that ends in Hong Kong.
